Description :

From the early years of the foundation of the colony and for the first half of the 20th century religion played a dominant role in the lives of many south Australians and the music which was performed in the churches was at the centre of their cultural life.

Before the development of extensive concert series, the most continuous and readily accessible musical offerings were those provided by the churches, and in the absence of developed orchestras many major choral works were presented with organ accompaniment
