The two-step has its origins in America and became popular in Australia in the early 20th century. The most popular dances in Australia until 1910 were the waltz, two-step, the lancers, the schottsche, the barn dance and the cakewalk. By the end of World War One the foxtrot was the most popular dance in Australia. Boosted by the popularity of the new foxtrot songs, it became the basis for the introduction of the jazz age dances. |
