Description :

An entry level copybook from the Adelaide series, which was used in South Australian government schools from 1887 until World War One. Usually blank, except for the printed example lines, this one had the writing exercises completed by the owner at Yongala School between 21 January 1914 and 6 July 1914. Some pages bear a 'good work' stamp.

The Introductory Book was introduced in July 1888 as many teachers had complained that the book used previously, known as Book A, was too difficult. The Introductory book 'consists entirely of one-height letters, and a tracing is given on each line.' Further 'the contents are as follows: - Strokes, hooks, &c., eight pages, and two pages of each of the following--u, n, in, mu, im, mi, um.' (The Education Gazette, South Australia, p. 41)

After satisfactorily completing this book the student progressed to Book A in the series.
