Description :

Songs about Australian places feature prominently in our music history.
Edith Harrhy was a composer who came to Australia from England in 1919. She was based in Melbourne and developed a career as a recitalist and broadcaster. Her concerts centred on performances of her own compositions with her singing, playing piano and accompanying other musicians.
The Music Theatre Guild's Harrhy award commemorates her long career as composer and musical director with many amateur and semi-professional musical theatre groups. Charles Henry Souter was a medical practitioner who also wrote poetry. From 1896 he contributed to The Bulletin sometimes using the pseudonyms Nil and Dr Nil. He published four collections of verse Irish lords, To many ladies, The mallee fire and The lonely rose.
