Description :

A sampler on cream canvas worked in coloured wools with alphabet in upper and lower case, and also in a Gothic face. The sampler was embroidered by Lillian White about 1875, when she was six years old. Lillian migrated to Australia in 1908. Letters and some numbers are in green wool on a brown wool background. L White is stitched into the lower right hand corner. There is a border of three rows of stitching.

Samplers such as this one were a school room exercise in embroidery.
