Description :

Portrait of D. McCallum from Willippa from the S.A. Northern Pioneers' composite, 1850-1859 (shown in position on B 6912/3).

A descendant has noted that the correct spelling of the name is McAllum.

Willipa station is recorded in the 1866 Gazetteer for South Australia as being 250 square miles in extent with a grazing capacity of 15,000 sheep. It is 115 miles north east of Port augusta, and lies east of Hawker. The occupier in 1866 is recorded as D. McCallum.
According to Cockburn's Pastoral pioneers ... vol. 2 p. 178 McCallum arrived in South Australia in 1843 on the Pestonjee Bomanjee. Also aboard that ship was John Livingston and shortly after arrival the two men formed a partnership and acquired the property Curratum near Mt Schanck in the south east of South Australia. In 1851 this property was divided with McCallum taking the western part.
In the late 1860s Willipa Station was acquired by Andrew Tennant.
