Description :

Newspaper article reporting on the opening of the Soldier's Memorial Chambers at Arthurton on 31 October 1927.


The Memorial was built in the form of a Council Chambers, with funds raised by the local community and assisted by the Clinton District Council.

The honour roll was unveiled by Mr John Sharrad, whose son, Private Walter Sharrad, of the 10th Battalion, died of wounds in France on 14 February 1917, aged 19.

The names of the fallen World War I servicemen appearing on the Memorial Plaque are WN Stephenson, M Hanrahan, NA Duckmanton, A Westbrook, WR Bull, F Shaw, W Sharrad, F Lloyd, AW Sandford, TW Pearson, C Harrison and E Birkin.
