County Daly, the northern section of Yorke Peninsula, was declared 12 June 1862 and was named for Governor Sir Dominick Daly. It comprises 1,236 square miles (3,201.24 square kilometres) and when declared was bounded by the River Broughton on the north, on the east by County Stanley and the head of St Vincent Gulf, on the west by Spencer Gulf and on the south by the pastoral district of Yorke Peninsula. This is now County Fergusson.

The map shows the close proximity of the towns of Wallaroo and Kadina with Moonta to the south, and forming what today is referred to as the 'Copper triangle'. The parkland belts laid out as part of the original town plans can still be discerned amid the development of the towns. The parkland is far more evident in the small town of Arthurton near the southern border of County Daly.
