Description :

View of the New Sleeps Hill railway tunnel.

Fearful of Japanese bombing during World War Two, the South Australian government felt some valuables needed a safe and secret storage space away from the centre of Adelaide. The Sleeps Hill railway tunnels, located on the Adelaide-Aldgate railway line, were used to store irreplaceable government documents and some of the collections of the Archives and Public Library, Museum and Art Gallery.
