Description :

Uniting Care Wesley (formerly the Adelaide Central Mission) was founded during Methodist Union in 1901. In 1994, to mark the International Year of the Family, the Mission decided to launch BFriend, a support service for people wondering about their sexuality, or newly identifying as same sex attracted. The Mission recognised that society in the late 20th century included more diverse varieties of 'family' than was the case 100 years earlier. The service opened the following year with two support workers. Although not directly religion-based, this is one of the many social services founded and supported by religious groups.
