Description :

The 'Christmas stocking' float in the 1950 John Martin's Christmas Pageant.

The Christmas Pageant has been an Adelaide institution since 1933, when it was introduced by Edward Heyward, chairman of John Martin's department store. After John Martin's closure, the state government of South Australia bought the Pageant to ensure the tradition continued. Six Credit Unions now sponsor the event.
