Description :

Map showing ports, jetties and lighthouses around the coast of South Australlia. This map is from Information as to the principal ports of South Australia and of Adelaide... 1902. There are inset maps of Port Adelaide, Port Pirie and Port Augusta and of Palmerston (Darwin) in the Northern Territory, still at this time under South Australian governance. These provide soundings in the outer channel and in the case of Palmerston the reach of the lighthouse at Point Charles at the entrance to the bay.

The map also locates the lighthouses in South Australia, indicating in yellow and red the reach of their lights. Note that both entrances to Gulf St Vincent, via Investigator Strait and Backstairs Passage are fully covered by lighthouses at Cape Borda and the Althorpe Islands and from Cape Willoughby and Cape Jervis. The entrance to Spencer Gulf is guarded by the Neptune Island light and further up the gulf by Point Lowly lighthouse and on the opposite side of the gulf by the Tipara Light.

Tables list the proclaimed ports of South Australia, the lighthouses and the type of light and period of its revolution and the jetties along the coast with their length and the depth of water at the end at low water.
