Description :

Brownhill Creek at Burnside showing the impact of urbanisation. Significant lengths of the creek run through private property.

Wirriparinga (Aboriginal word meaning scrubby place by water) or Brownhill Creek is one of the main watercourses across the Adelaide Plains rising near Crafers in the Mt Lofty Ranges and flowing in a north westerly direction out of the hills, through Mitcham and Hawthorn and continuing across the suburbs. Originally it flowed into the Reedbeds (now the suburbs of Grange and Fulham Gardens), but has now been diverted away from Adelaide Airport through a concrete channel and flows into the Patawalonga Creek at Glenelg North.
