Description :
The State Library holds 48 film reels (available on videotape) taken by Laurence S Casson between 1934-1976. Casson's recordings show Pinnaroo and the surrounding district, family occasions and various South Australian events.

This segment shows an ANZAC Day march through the streets of Adelaide, circa 1950.

ANZAC Day (April 25) marks the date the Allied forces landed at the Gallipoli Peninsula in 1915 in an attempt to capture Constantinople (now Istanbul), capital of the Ottoman Empire and an ally of Germany. The campaign lasted 8 months and cost 8,000 Australian lives.

The first ANZAC Day was held in 1916 to commemorate those who were sacrificed during the Gallipoli campaign, and continued after the war's end as a day of commemoration for the 60,000 Australians who died in the Great War.

ANZAC Day is now an opportunity to honour and commemorate all those who have died for or served Australia in armed conflict.
