Description :

The Governor's summer residence at Marble Hill, Norton Summit in the Adelaide Hills. The house, built in 1879, was burnt out in a bushfire on 2 January 1955 when Governor Sir Robert George was in residence.

This image is from an album of 50 photographs of Adelaide and country subjects, taken by Samuel White Sweet.

Sweet is well known as a photographer but he was also a ship's captain and a surveyor. After retiring from the sea in the 1870s, he became the colony's foremost documentary photographer, concentrating mainly on landscape.
