Description :

Portrait of C. Faulkner from Bobmonnie from the S.A. Northern Pioneers' composite, 1850-1859 (shown in position on B 6912/2).

Charles Faulkner was born in Buckinghamshire, England about 1833 and arrived in South Australia 1852.

Faulkner established hotels in the copper mining regions of the Flinders Ranges: the Bushman's Inn at Nuccaleena from 1863 to 1873, the Blinman North Hotel in 1869, and the Rock Hotel at Sliding Rock in 1874. Of these three the Blinman North Hotel was the most successful. The copper mining in the northern Flinders Ranges however proved unsuccessful leading to the closure of the mines and as a result the decline of some of the towns established around them.

Bobmonnie Station was of of the many properties of John and James Chambers and later was sold by them to Philip Levi: Bobmonnie was one of the many pastoral stations devastated by the droughts of the 1860s.

Charles Faulkner died 31 July 1915 and was buried in Mitcham, South Australia.
