Description :

Distant view of Point Turton and its jetty on the Yorke Peninsula, South Australia.

The Point Turton jetty was initially built to for loading imports and exports for nearby Warooka. Construction of the jetty was completed in October 1877. At this time the jetty's length was 91.5 metres; in 1882 a further 12 metres was added and when BHP commenced quarrying for limestone nearby in the early 20th century, the jetty was increased again to its current length of 127 metres. Much of the infrastructure of the jetty was replaced in 1954, but the port closed in 1962 and the jetty is now used for recreation rather than industry.
