Description :

Sturt records the assistance given to him by the Aboriginal people throughout his voyage down the river and again upstream. He writes how each community passed him along to the next down river and of how they described changes that he would meet, such as the big bend where the river finally turned south. Without their assistance on the return voyage, the explorers would have had great difficulty in surmounting the rapids they had sailed down with relative ease. Sturt also records that the Aboriginals were sadly afflicted by some terrible disease, which he thought was smallpox.
