Extract of a newspaper article stating that the land around the River Murray had not yet been used to its full potential. It also applaudes the pioneering spirit of those who have chosen to go to the village settlements, but warns that many of the settlers are not prepared for the work they will have to undertake. The South Australian government established the provisions for the founding of communal settlements, known as village settlements, in a part of the Crown Lands Amendment Act in 1893. Thirteen village settlements were eventually founded in South Australia. Of these, eleven were on the River Murray. |
