Description :

Construction of the bridge over the River Murray


The first bridge to be built across the River Murray was at Murray Bridge in South Australia. Proposed as early as 1864 it was not built until 1879. Initially a road bridge only by 1886 it was also carrying the railway line to the Victorian border. A separate railway bridge was built adjacent in 1925.
