Description :

'The Tavern - Hindmarsh Island' Menu contains brief history of the Rankine family.

Waterfront Rankines Landing is located at The Marina, Randell Road, Hindmarsh Island. The tavern's location and the history of the area are reflected in names of some of the food served: 'Hindmarsh' South Australian oysters and 'Bottomdeck' burgers.

The printed menu chronicles Dr John Rankine, who was the first to run stock on Hindmarsh Island, and in 1849 built the first home there. He operated 'Rankine's Ferry' which transported wool, livestock and dairy produce to the mainland. Fifth and sixth generation members of the family live on Hindmarsh Island and are the hosts at Rankines Landing.
