Description :

The path to selecting the site for Adelaide was not an easy one. In fact, South Australia's first governor, John Hindmarsh, firmly disagreed with surveyor-general William Light's choice. Hindmarsh preferred a site on Encounter Bay, close to the Murray Mouth.

BT (Boyle Travers) Finniss' report of his survey of the Encounter Bay area published in the Southern Australian newspaper shows that he believed the land to be unsuitable for the site of the colony's capital city.
