Description :
In 1883, at the age of just 37, George Wyndham Kennion became the second Anglican Bishop of Adelaide. His wife Henrietta was the sister of former South Australian Governor Sir James Fergusson and was very popular amongst the people of Adelaide. When the Bishop left Australia in 1894 to become Bishop of Bath and Wells in England, Mrs Kennion was presented, by 'the churchwomen of South Australia', with a book of illuminated addresses representing the many charitable organisations with which she had been associated, including the House of Mercy. This was established at Walkerville by a group of Anglicans in 1881, for unmarried expectant mothers. Henrietta Kennion died in Scotland in 1937 aged 99.
