Description :
The departure of Lutheran missionaries, Johannes Gossling and Ernst Homann, and assistants Hermann Vogelsang and JE Jacob, from Langmeil Church, Tanunda for Coopers Creek on 9 October 1866. The missionaries' journey took almost four months. They established a mission at Killalpaninna, but were forced to return to Adelaide due to the initial hostility of the local Aboriginal people, until a permanent police station was established at Kopperamanna. Ernst Homann returned to the mission in 1868 with Vogelsang and Jacob, but Gossling's ill health prevented his ongoing work with the mission.
