Photograph of a Sturt's desert pea in bloom (taken 13 March 2006) Named after the well-known explorer Charles Sturt, the Sturt's desert pea has been the floral emblem of South Australia since 1961. The plant is part of the Leguminosae family, which also includes edible peas and beans and the wattles. It is found in central Australia's arid zone. |
