Description :
United Trades and Labor Council Minutes of 28 March 1890. These record official notice from the Working Women's Trades Union of seeking affiliation with the UTLC, but also stating that they do not at this point intend to send lady delegates. Mary Lee had first suggested the need for 'female trade unions' in 1889, during widespread public debate about sweatshops, a situation which saw particular exploitation of women. In 1890 the UTLC therefore formed the Working Women's Trades Union.
