The Australian Formula One Grand Prix was held in Adelaide between 1985 and 1995 in the city's east parklands. A street circuit was set up in the city on public roads in and around the Victoria Park horseracing course. Keke Rosberg of the Williams team won the first Australian Formula One Grand Prix held in Adelaide. The poster slogan Adelaidealive captures the enthusiasm of the large crowds in the city, with local, interstate and overseas supporters enjoying both the spectacle of the race and the party for the last race of the season. The Australian Formula One Grand Prix demonstrated South Australia's capability in staging world-class events. After eleven years of racing, the event was moved to Melbourne. |
