Description :

The crew of the SS Governor Musgrave landing spars recovered from the wreck of the ship Norma at the Government Dockyard, Port Adelaide . The Norma was wrecked at Semaphore when it was rammed by the Ardencraig on 21 April 1907. Norma settled a few feet below the surface and several other ships were damaged before the wreck could be dismantled or buoyed.

Governor Musgrave was purchased by the South Australian government in 1874, replacing Flinders. The Governor Musgrave was an iron hulled steamship and was used for servicing South Australian lighthouses and other duties including Vice Regal tours to the Gulfs.

Built at Mort's Dock in Sydney with an inverted direct acting steam engine, 60 nhp cylinders 36 inch diameter and 20 inch stroke, the ship was given an extensive refit in Adelaide in 1884. It was also manned at times of financial stringency by the crew of HMCS Protector.
Governor Musgrave served as an examination vessel under the control of the Royal Australian Navy during World War I and in 1915 was acquired by the Commonwealth Lighthouse Service for duty in Western Australia.
