A party of state parliamentarians visit Poole and Steel's shipbuilding yard at Osborne, when the Commonwealth government contract was reduced from four ships to three. The committee known as the Shipbuilding Extension Campaign Committee was liaising with the Port Adelaide Trades and Labour Council and other interested parties and would be approaching the Prime Minister following their visit. It was noted that other states were receiving greater assistance than South Australia. The first ship Eurimbla would be leaving for Melbourne that evening and the second ship was already on the stocks and part completed.

The article indicates that it had been mooted that vessels can be imported more cheaply from overseas builders, but that these ships need to undergo modifications to comply with the Australian Navigation Act. The subsidies paid to European builders which made them highly competitive are also mentionned.
