Portrait of Sammy Lunn, a well known supporter of the Port Adelaide Football Club, holding his magpie flag and a football. He was also a prominent fund raiser and worker for the troops during World War I.

I believe the fundraising activities of Sammy Lunn have taken on a new significance because of his close association with the 32nd Battalion, encamped at Cheltenham Racecourse for several months before departure. The reason why this is important is because among these men are quite a few who were lost in the increasingly important battle of Fromelles and around 20 of those are among those who have recently been identified by modern forensics in mass graves. For various circumstances, this battle and this battalion have been overlooked by history but this is rapidly being redressed.

In 1910 Port Adelaide's Sampson 'Shine' Hosking won the Magarey Medal for the best and fairest player in the South Australian Football League (later to be known as the South Australian National Football League). He also won his club's best and fairest award that year. Full-forward, Frank Hansen, topped the League's goalkicking.

Port Adelaide won the Premiership in 1910 and went on to defeat the Victorian Football League premiers, Collingwood, to be hailed the 'Champions of Australia'.
