Description :

This decorative bilingual collection of children's hymns and poems is one of many publications produced by the early German Lutheran immigrants to South Australia. It is a translation of a popular work of the nineteenth century. This edition was printed by the German newspaper publisher and printer, Wilhelm Eggers, translated by Ellen Mayo, wife of an Adelaide doctor. Hymn books, prayer books, religious tracts and newspapers were printed locally for the close-knit community throughout the 19th century, however this is one of the more elaborate of these publications.
