Description :
The Norwood Football Club made an immediate impression when it joined the South Australian Football Association (forerunner to the SANFL) in 1878. It won the premiership and then went on to the next five as well. In total the Redlegs have won twenty seven premierships and been runners up another twenty times. They have also been the Australian champions twice, in 1888 when they beat Victorian Football League premiers South Melbourne, and in 1907 defeating Carlton.

In 1898 Norwood's Alby Green was the first player to be awarded the Magarey Medal. Other Norwood winners of the Medal include Methodist minister Charles Perry in 1915, champion backman Walter 'Wacka' Scott in 1921, 1924 and 1930, three time premiership player Alick Lill 1925, Bill McCallum 1936, ruckman John Marriott 1951, strong backman Ron Kneebone 1966, Michael Aish, whose father played for the club in the 1950s and 1960s, won in 1981, rugged Garry McIntosh 1994 and 1995 and Andrew Jarman in 1997.

Of course other fine players have also worn the red and navy blue including their great early leader Alfred 'Topsy' Waldron who was captain for nine seasons and a seven time premiership player, full forward Bruce Schultz, Jack Oatey who captain coached the club to three premierships and later coached Sturt to great success, Doug Olds who was the first player to play 200 games for the club, champion ruckman Bill Wedding who was also a mainstay of South Australia's state team, the formidable John Wynne, wingman Phil Gallagher and 1978 premiership captain Michael Taylor.
