William John McEvoy was a member of the 9th Light Horse Regiment - 7 Reinforcement. McEvoy was from Riverton SA, and had been a labourer before enlistment. He embarked on the HMAT Kanowna on 24 June 1915, and as a serviceman, received a daily rate of pay of 5 /-. His pay book records entries at Heliopolis from August 25 to September 22, and then 'Anzac' from 15 October to 10 November 1915. He spent more than four years in service abroad, and was discharged in October 1919.
