Description :
In 1956 Les Cassidy was the oldest member of the Builders Laborers Union. Born in Adelaide on 6 November 1892, Les was the fifth of seven children. In 1917 he married Ivy Myrtle Jenkins and the couple had four children. A foundation member of the Builders Labourers Union in 1912, Les said, 'In the struggles of the old days, when men were fighting hard for improved conditions, stop work meetings were numerous, but now these objectives have been realised by the unremitting efforts of staunch unionists ...' Les died on 1 November 1981.
