Description :

A long line of horse drawn trucks of bagged gypsum being pulled along a metal track to the jetty at Stenhouse Bay to await transport by ship.

From the mine at Inneston, and later Stenhouse Bay, the ore needed to be transported to the washing and crushing plant, to the factory for conversion to plaster of paris and chalk, and finally to the jetty at Stenhouse Bay for shipment to Port Adelaide and overseas.

Wagons pulled by horses were used initially, but later a wooden railway line was laid and eased this heavy task. The timber rails were not successful, however, and finally a light gauge two foot steel tramway replaced this. Later again a steam locomotive was introduced.
