Description :

Illustration of the Bank of South Australia, Adelaide.

The first Bank of South Australia building was located on North Terrace on land opposite to the site reserved for Parliament House. The Bank was originally established as a department of the South Australian Company, but separated from that organisation in 1842.

The design of the building was undertaken by Prescott and Hancock. The building is described as Grecian Ionic in style; it was completed by February 1841. The Bank opened for business in the following May.
