On September 28 Light returned to his previous anchorage and William Field and William Pullen each explored again the inlet they had examined on the 26th. Their descriptions of the inlet were very different from Captain Jones's, with two channels and two islands, and no fresh water. William Light was again frustrated in his efforts to find what had been described as a superb harbour. Without a good harbour, they could not use what otherwise appeared a suitable site for the settlement. While William Light waited for his men to return with their reports on the inlet, he was working on preparing his chart of the eastern coast of Saint Vincent Gulf. The weather continued fine. |
