Description : |
The inaugural Adelaide Festival of Ideas was held 9-11 July 1999, North Terrace, Adelaide. It was sponsored by Nokia, the City of Adelaide and the Government of South Australia, and presented by Adelaide Festival of Arts. The Adelaide Festival of Ideas focuses on exploring issues of concern, with debates, panel discussions and lectures which encourage an in-depth exchange of ideas and consideration of future actions. The festival occurs every two years at a number of venues in Adelaide. Up to 40 thinkers and speakers from around the world come together to foster discussion and an appreciation of global outlooks on various topics. Challenging mainstream practices and beliefs and presenting new ways of looking at issues is supported. The value of solution seeking, community and considered action is recognised. Festival themes have included democracy, population, reconciliation, water, environmental change and technological developments. |
