In 1994 SA Ports Corporation and Transport SA Marine Services were established.  Transport SA took control over all recreational jetties, and SA Ports Corporation was responsible for the ports at Port Adelaide, Port Giles, Cape Jervis, Kingscote, Klein Point, Penneshaw, Port Lincoln, Port Pirie, Thevenard and Wallaroo.

Several ports with their wharfage and jetties were privately operated: Port Stanvac (Mobil Australia) - now closed and with the jetty and moorings partly dismantled; Whyalla and Ardrossan (BHP-Billiton Ltd).  A further four privately owned jetties are not now in use: Ballast Head (Kangaroo Island), Proper Bay, Rapid Bay and at the Northern Power Station at Port Augusta.

Flinders Ports purchased SA Ports Corporation in 2001 and took over port facilities for all of the Ports Corp facilities with the exception of Penneshaw and Kingscote and Cape Jervis which were again assumed by Transport SA.

41 jetties were repaired and upgraded by the SA government and were handed over to local councils. The issue of recreational jetties remains a fraught one as most are used by large numbers of non-resident people for leisure pursuits which do not turn a profit.

The repair of major storm damage will always be an issue for local councils. The Brighton jetty was extensively damaged by storm in May 1994. Part cost of the replacement was met with the installation of a telecommunications tower at the seaward end.
