Description :
Home crowd spectators were treated to a memorable doubles final at the 1952 Challenge Round of the Davis Cup, held at Memorial Drive in Adelaide.

Adelaide-born Ken McGregor, son of twice Magarey Medallist, Bruce McGregor, joined Frank Sedgman to beat the American team of Vic Seixas and Tony Trabert in four sets, 6-3, 6-4, 1-6, 6-3, retaining the Men's doubles title for Australia. McGregor and Sedgeman were one of the finest doubles team tennis has ever seen, winning seven consecutive doubles titles, including the only doubles grand slam ever. McGregor was also a fine singles player, making the Wimbledon final in 1951. Although he lost that match, to American Dick Savitt, a few months later in early 1952, he did win a grand slam title when he beat his friend and partner, Sedgeman, in the Australian Open final.

After controversy surrounding the lure of professional tennis, McGregor followed in his father's footsteps and in 1954 went on to a decorated SANFL career for the West Adelaide Football Club. He was also a South Australian state footballer. Ken McGregor died in 2007.
