In 1993 the Lesbian and Gay Community Action (LGCA) organisation won an Equal Opportunity Achievement Award from the South Australian Equal Opportunity Commission. 'LGCA was nominated for an organisational award by the Management Committee of the AIDS Council of South Australia for its work in promoting Lesbian and Gay rights, and in recognition of the invaluable work it is doing for individuals, and within the wider community. ... Barbara Baird (convenor) and Ian Purcell (committee member) accepted the award on behalf of LGCA.' This was the first time the award had gone to a group working in the area of sexuality anti-discrimination. |
