Description :
The annual conferences of the various churches were significant events. Here ministers and lay people met to make decisions about the church, receive financial reports and the reports of various committees, and to debate church-related issues over several days. The Primitive Methodist Jubilee Church in Morphett Street, Adelaide, was built in 1860. In 1894 it was host to the annual Primitive Methodist Conference. Under the presidency of the Rev.J. Day Thompson, the amalgamation of the three streams of Methodism - Bible Christians, Wesleyans and Primitive Methodists, was strongly pushed forward, and a three hour 'animated debate' took place, and in fact continued over two days. The conference declared that it was "strongly in favour of Methodist amalgamation." (Adelaide Observer, 10 March 1894, p. 15)
