The State Library holds 48 film reels (available on videotape) taken by Laurence S Casson between 1934-1976. Casson's recordings show Pinnaroo and the surrounding district, family occasions and various South Australian events.

This segment shows Adelaide's preparation for the 1954 visit of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh.

As is evident in this film, the city spared no expense in welcoming the Royal visitors on their first Australian tour (which was also the first tour by any reigning monarch).

The visit to Australia was part of the newly crowned Queen's first official tour, one that took her to Commonwealth nations across the globe.

During her two month stay in Australia she spent 9 days in South Australia (March 18-26). Arriving in Adelaide on March 18, she also visited Whyalla and Port Lincoln (March 20), Woomera (March 22) and Renmark (March 23).
