Description :

The Cricketer was published by the Register newspaper as a small journal for cricket enthusiasts to coincide with a game played between the Australian Eleven and the South Australian Eighteen on 26-27 December 1878. It ran to three issues. As well as articles about the game, it contained many advertisements for Adelaide firms. The first issue stated, "This paper is published in honour of the return of the Australian cricketers. The publishers claim nothing original, and are indebted to several sources for the different articles." (p. 2)
