Description :

Port Augusta's first town hall was erected in 1886-1887. However in 1944 the main hall was destroyed by fire. Fortunately the facade of the building survived and was incorporated when the town hall was rebuilt and reopened in 1946.

The original town hall was constructed of brownstone sourced from Quorn, and decorated with Ionic columns and pediment gables either side of a square tower which housed the town clock. This had been presented by JW Martin of Adelaide in 1881 some years prior to the town hall being built.

The town hall became redundant when the Port Augusta Civic Centre was built in 1982.

The town hall is listed on the Register of the National Estate.
