Description :

It is to be wished that those who feel an interest in the welfare of the aborigines here would arouse themselves, and make an effort to retain the valuable services of Mr Kuhn, for if anything is to be done with the natives, we are convinced he is the man to do it. ... We are given to understand that the native population of the district, between Tipara, Kadina, and Wallaroo ... is about two hundred. (Wallaroo times, 30 June 1866, p. 2)

Wilhelm Julius Kuhn was a Moravian missionary who arrived in South Australia in 1865 specifically to work with other German Moravians in the Aboriginal missions already existing in the far north of the state. On his way to Coopers Creek he stayed at Wallaroo where the local people convinced him to remain and work with the Aboriginal people of the district. As a result the Point Pearce mission came to be established. Kuhn was highly respected by the Aboriginal people. In 1880 he left the mission for Western Australia.
