Description :

Wallaroo Mines Federal Band.

Away from their hard and dangerous work in the mines, the miners at Wallaroo played football and cricket on land supplied by the company. In 1897 a brass band was formed, again with the assistance of the mining company which supplied funding for instruments and uniforms, and eventually a band rotunda.

W H Woolcock, a talented musician, formed and lead the band throughout its existence. When the mines closed in 1923, the band was wound up. Some players, however, found places with the Excelsior Band in Kadina.
