Did you know? : Little Scotland

The district of Goolwa that is known as 'Little Scotland' was so named because many of its early inhabitants were Scottish. Francis Cadell and George Johnston, two pioneers of the riverboat age, were from the village of Cockenzie in Scotland. Johnston named his home in Goolwa Cockenzie House. Cadell and Johnston recruited other Scots to work on their riverboats and Johnston built many of the cottages in 'Little Scotland' for his compatriot workers.
