Description :

Henry Vere Barclay continues his description of a possible stock route from Queensland to Central Australia which would utilise the waters of the Great Artesian Basin through wells and bores. He reported that the the stock route would be of great benefit to the pastoralists of the region and concluded his report with an estimate of the costs. He begins a description of the sand-hill country adjacent to what is now the Simpson Desert.

The survey of the sand-hill country was one of the few accomplishments of the expedition, being the only previously unexplored country the expedition covered. However it was only a 'dash' and did not fully investigate what happened to the many large rivers that flowed into the region. The proposed stock route was never fully realised, in part because of the vagaries of the seasons. Barclay and Macpherson would team up for a further two expeditions in the Northern Territory, and Barclay always remained a strong advocate of its potential.
