Description :

Two men with bullocks and a scrub roller clearing land at Telowie in the Flinders Ranges. Land was cleared for the best of reasons at the time: to make more land available for agricultural and pastoral purposes. However it was done with little understanding of the long term results of such broad scale re-shaping of the landscape. Loss of habitat for Australian flora and fauna resulted in the loss of biodiversity. Longer term results of such clearances were also soil erosion, dust storms with further loss of top soil and soil salinity.

The name Telowie is 'derived from the Aboriginal delowie - 'saltbush waterhole'. This plant once covered extensive areas of the district.' - Manning
